Our Fridge Died

Well, our fridge died 3 weeks ago and we're still dealing with repairs.  Luckily it's still under the extended warranty but it's slow to be repaired.  Apparently the first repairman that was sent to our house said the compressor is bad but they can't order the part from LG.  So, the warranty company needs to send an "LG Certified" technician to look at our fridge and it's another week of waiting for an appointment.  In the meantime we've been living out of our coolers all this time buying ice at Costco every few days.  This hasn't been fun!

I got a call this week that a garage spot opened up in Boulder City for our boat.  It's at the place we liked the best.  We found it during our scouting mission to Vegas between Christmas and New Years.  So now we have a spot for the RV and the boat and both of them are empty!  The boat was in the shop this week for the fuel pump and now it needs some work on the starter after our "flooding" incident last fall while the boat was in a slip at Lake Mead.  I guess we didn't escape that incident completely unharmed after all.

Al is trying to determine his last day of work.  He's kind of dragging his feet and nervous about it.  I can't blame him, I'm in the same predicament it's just further into the future.  We had another chat with our financial planner this week to help get us over this hump but the stock market took a 1400+ point dive at the end of last week.

I'm working to get insurance set up for our RV.  We're scheduled to pick up the travel trailer on April 6th where they'll do work on our truck, do the financing, and a trailer orientation.  I wonder how much more difficult it will be to tow the trailer vs. the boat.  Maybe we'll take it to a large parking lot and practice backing it in to spots.  We need to get it backed in to our storage spot in Chino after that weekend.

Things are progressing to our full-time transition.

Here's a rough outline of things to come:

April 6th - Pick up trailer
April late - RV Rally in NV
May 5th - Community Yard Sale
May - Nancy's last day of work
June - empty the house
July 4-13 - Lake Powell
July late - Mexico City
Aug - Snow Canyon State Park, UT
Aug mid - Zion
Sept early - Grand Canyon North Rim
Sept - wrap up summer water-ski season
Oct - RV Nomads Movie Premier in Wellington, TX
Oct - Grand Design Owner Rally in TX
Oct - change our domicile to TX
Nov-Dec - Back to CA for the holidays
Jan-Feb-Mar - Arizona, hopefully Spring Training

RV Storage

Well, my bathroom mirror is covered in dry erase lists of items to be completed each month until we hit the road.  One item came up over the weekend and that was an RV storage spot opened up in Chino.  We don't have the trailer yet so the decision to pass it up or jump on it was dealt with this weekend.  I jumped on it.  I hate putting out the money for an empty spot until we pick up the trailer but there is peace of mind knowing we now have a spot ready.  And, the storage lot has some nice amenities like free ice, trailer wash area, dump station, and vacuum.  Now we have more freedom to decide on a trailer pick up date.  We need the trailer to attend an RV rally in Pahrump, NV at the end of April.  Plus we would like a trial run one weekend before so we'll set a trailer pick up date sometime in the next 4-5 weeks.  We also have to get RV insurance so our insurance friend is working on that for us.

My chance of being laid off from my job was not approved so now I need to choose my last day of work.  My 25th anniversary will be on May 10 so I'm thinking of leaving just after that.

In the meantime, Al's been helping his brother at his house with electrical, replacing the water heater, and next installing new floors.

I've been weeding our backyard garden a little each weekend getting it ready for rental and also trying to go through items getting them ready for a community yard sale on May 5.

We're starting a CERT class this week in Tustin on Wednesdays for the next two months to learn emergency response training.  We really enjoyed the Citizens Academy we attended a few years ago so we're looking forward to this additional training.  I'm anxious to use a fire extinguisher!

That's what's on my mind this week.

Seaside, Oregon

We left the Tillamook Elks RV Park before 11 and traveled north before arriving at Seaside Thousand Trails campground a little after noon.  ...
