Wichita Falls - Sheppard Air Force Air Show

Once the snow melted in Amarillo, Texas, we made our way to Wichita Falls in Texas.  We stayed at a Boondockers Welcome site and got set up on their property not far from Sheppard Air Force base north of town.

While driving towards Wichita we saw white streaks in the sky in strange lines made by airplanes.  When we arrived at the property the owners told us it was the Air Show weekend at the Air Force base.  We knew our plan for the next day!

Us set up next to the owner's 5th wheel to the side of their property.
The next day we drove over to the Air base to check out the air craft and then watched the air show.

This drone was huge!  I could stand up straight under the wing without hitting my head.

This plan had a flying boom to pass fuel from one plane to another while in flight.

A plane had signings from the guys who parachuted from it during WWII.

B-52H

Boeing B-29 Superfortress WWII bomber with only two remaining that still fly.  The one we saw was Doc and the other is Fifi.

Each B-29 Doc Flight Experience flight has nine seats: Bombardier ($1,500), Cockpit/Pilot Observer ($1,200), Navigator ($1,200) and six Gunner seats ($600 each). The bombardier, cockpit/pilot observer and navigator seats are in the forward section (front) of the aircraft, while the six gunner seats are in the aft section of the aircraft. Each seat provides its own unique, one-of-a-kind experience with seat-specific views and experiences.

We did not go for a ride!

Jelly Belly

The yellow Jelly Belly plane was landing on a moving pickup truck.  It took a couple of tries but he made it!

Parachutist jumping from a helicopter!

Red Bull helicopter doing flips!

Other cool planes which I can't identify!  All photos are right side up!

Check out these two "friends" flying so close together!

The highlight for me was to watch the rock stars of the Air Force, the Thunderbirds.

Can you imagine flying a plane upside down?

This is not a reflection but two planes flying!

The Thunderbirds have to be experienced in person.  They would appear from behind and fly by before you hear them!  What a rush!

Once all the planes landed and were parked, the pilots where each met by a team member outside their plane in some sort of ceremony.

Then the pilots and ground support meet the crowd and sign autographs!

Al got some amazing photos of the event!  I enjoyed the air show much more then I would ever have expected.  We were so lucky to be in town and attend the air show.

Next we'll visit some friends we made on the road last year when we stayed on their property and make our way to a Habitat for Humanity build.

Seaside, Oregon

We left the Tillamook Elks RV Park before 11 and traveled north before arriving at Seaside Thousand Trails campground a little after noon.  ...
