Snow Canyon State Park in Utah - Camp Hosting

I'm going to break up our Snow Canyon blog entries into categories.  The first will be about Camp Hosting, then Hiking, then about the People we've met or worked with.

Last summer we found this park and fell in love with it.  We stayed here several times last August and September.  On our last stay there, we inquired about camp hosts.  We were told by Jordan, the Assistant Park Manager, that there was an opening for April & May 2019 if we were interested.  He told us to follow up with him after the holidays which we did and fill out an application.  It was as simple as that as this would be our first camp hosting assignment.  We agreed that April 1st would be our arrival date.  We were so happy to leave the RV parks in Mesa, Arizona and spent 3 nights getting to Utah.

After talking with Jordan that day last summer, another camper, Jeff, overheard our conversation and told us to stop over at his campsite after to chat.  When we did, Jeff told us he has camp hosted at this park in the past and loved it and he had great things to say about it.  During that conversation we also found out that Jeff also lived in our town of Tustin so small world!

We arrived at Snow Canyon State Park in Utah with no problems.

The couple we are replacing as camp hosts left earlier in the day so we got set up next to Dave, one of the other camp hosts who was staying on for a couple of weeks to train us.

Maddy and her dog, Peaches, are the other camp hosts for April and May.  Maddy was parked up next to the maintenance building while Dave was still with us.  After Dave left, Maddy moved down to be next to us.

There's a new Camp Host in town!

The hook up sites are tight here as they were built long before RV's got bigger and anyone thought about slide outs!

Here is our "office".  It's the visitor center about half way through the park.  Our commute is a one  minute walk from the RV!  Not a bad view and we avoid traffic

Basically we work four hours, 8-12, on Tuesdays - Saturdays in exchange for our free campsite with hookups.  I work in the visitor center managing the 39 campsites, answering questions of guests, and keeping the small gift shop stocked.

There is a resident California King snake in the visitor center with me.  I'm not a fan of snakes but I'm learning a lot about Jake.  He's about four feet long!  I even got to witness the process he goes through as he sheds his skin.

Here is my "cubicle".

First thing in the morning, Al puts up the American and Utah flags.  One morning I happen to catch an Air Force veteran saluting the flag while Al was raising it.  That was an awesome site to witness as I happen to need to go back to our trailer to get my glasses which I forgot.

Al mostly works outside cleaning out the fire pits and gardening.  And he gets do drive this cool vehicle they call the "mule".

Al using the weed wacker around the visitor center.

And the picnic area

If the weather gets too hot then Al comes in and assists me in the visitor center.  Since we've now done most of the hikes in the park we can make good suggestions.

Here is a shot of the visitor center Al caught one night.  The colors in the sky were amazing!

That is basically our job for two months.  I enjoy talking with the guests and trying to keep the campers happy.  We've met some great people here which I'll show in another entry.

Seaside, Oregon

We left the Tillamook Elks RV Park before 11 and traveled north before arriving at Seaside Thousand Trails campground a little after noon.  ...
