We're Out of the House

It was the final push to empty the house last week.  We managed to fill two big dumpsters with "stuff"!

And off it went to the dump!

I had the opportunity to meet up with girlfriends to celebrate Susan's July and my May birthdays at one of our favorite restaurants, Haus of Pizza, in Garden Grove. Thanks Ly and Jackie for the Panzerotti!

Our Harley didn't sell yet so a friend offered to store it for us so Al was riding it on the 5 to Downey when it died on him just before the 605 off ramp. There is lots of construction in the are and so the roads are surrounded by k-rail so there was no shoulder to pull over. The bike managed to coast to a small area in the middle of the off ramp. Al didn't have his cell phone to call for help.  While Al was there an older couple actually pulled over and he thought they were stopping to help him but they asked him for directions. Crazy (but Angels)! Al borrowed their cell to call for help. The freeway service pulled over and called CHP.  An officer arrived and did a traffic stop so Al and the freeway service guy could push that very heavy bike over to an area behind the k-rail and wait for a tow truck. Then the CHP officer gave Al a ride to our friends house in Downey.  Al's first ride in a CHP car!

We met up with our river friends at Carolina's for a farewell dinner on Sunday night.  We've been friends for a lot of years and we love doing life with these people (Suzanne, Al, Joe, Lucy, Chuck, Kathy, Nancy, and Jeannie).

Finally on Monday we left the house for the last time as we start our adventure. We hope we find tennants soon.

We drove to Boulder City, NV to check on our boat repair. We're headed out on a houseboat on Lake Powell for a week and wanted to make sure it was fixed before we tow it to Powell. We took it out on Lake Mead for 1.5 hours on a windy day and ran the engine testing the new fuel pump and hose. It ran great so that was a relief. Now we have our boat to use for waterskiing during the houseboat trip.

It was a good week and we're so happy to be finished with the house projects and get this adventure on the road.  In July we're traveling without the RV so the RV adventure starts in August.

Time for much needed rest and relaxation!

  1. Wow, what a push to get the house in order the past few weeks have been. I've been working 12-14hr days to fix, repair or just upgrade stuff that I should have done a while back. In that time frame I actually lost 5lbs, I'm ready for some needed rest. My thoughts are to hear no complaints from the new tenents and hope they enjoy all the fruit trees we planted over the years.
It was awesome to get the boat back in such a short turn around time and have it working with out issues. Lake Powell here we come for some waterskiing and rest, we can't wait to just be sitting on top of the houseboat watching the scenery go by.
