Amarillo, TX

After leaving the Albuquerque area, we headed east and caravaned with Dorothy and Jerry to Santa Rosa State Park but still in New Mexico.  Dorothy and Jerry were spending one night before heading towards Missouri while we stayed two nights.  The second night it got cold and we woke up to some snow on our truck and RV!

Al sweeping snow off the roof!
After sweeping the snow off the truck and RV, we headed for Amarillo, Texas.

I have a cousin who lives there who I haven't seen in over 20 years!  We re-connected with my cousin, Rob, and his wife, Cindy and enjoyed the "Build your own Burger" and spaghetti with homemade sauce dinners and conversation with them.

They suggested we do a hike nearby in the "Grand Canyon of Texas" known as Palo Duro Canyon.  It seems strange it being so flat in this part of Texas but yet there is this beautiful canyon.  We hiked to the Lighthouse which was a mostly flat trail until we arrived at the "lighthouse" where it got steep fast!

While checking out the amenities at the campground in Amarillo, I walked in to the laundry room.  I looked at a lady sitting in the room working on her tablet and I said, "I know you."  She looked up and recognized me.  It was Joie who we met at the Cabela's in Albuquerque for the meet and greet of the family from Less Junk, More Journey.  We got to talking and made plans to have dinner with her and her husband, Mike, at the touristy spot in town - Big Texan Steak Ranch.

This ranch offers a free dinner to anyone who can eat a 72 oz. steak meal in one hour!

Meal consists of: Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad,
with Roll, Butter, and of course the 72 oz. Steak

Here's more info if you're REALLY hungry:  https://www.bigtexan.com/72oz-steak-rules/

Part of the experience is the limo ride from the campground to the restaurant.  Here are Mike and Joie getting ready to board our limo.

Nice horns on that limo!

Anyone up for the challenge?

My dinner, yummy (except for the jalapeno!)
We had a fun time in Amarillo with my cousins, Rob & Cindy and new friends, Mike and Joie.

Next we're off to Wellington, Texas for the movie premier of the RV Nomads documentary.
