RV Nomads Documentary Premier, Wellington, TX

We caravaned from Amarillo, TX to Wellington, TX with Mike and Joie.  We drove by many very large cotton fields on the way to Wellington.  It looked like fields of snow!  We're also in the Bible belt and there are many, many, many churches!  Some are right next to each other.

One of the places we had booked before we hit the road in August was to attend the premier of a documentary about people living the full-time RV life.  It was called NomadFest 2018.  There was a lot of excitement online building up to the event.

We arrived and got set up.  We stayed on the grass of the fairgrounds for several nights with a crowd of other RV's!

It was a nice day when we arrived but later that afternoon and all the next day it poured rain.  That didn't work so well with the grounds and it got very muddy!  We went out to the library and left the truck near the entrance when we returned due to all the mud.  There was no way it would make it back to park at our RV.  The next day Al tried to move the truck closer to our RV and got stuck in the mud.  Luckily there were plenty of awesome RVers who helped him get the truck unstuck and moved.

These orange things worked great!

There isn't much to the town Wellington, TX.  About 70% of the store fronts in the square are vacant.  Most days we walked the mile from the fairgrounds to the downtown but there wouldn't be any problems finding places to park.

One of the storefronts in the square was the location of some of the filming of the documentary.  We went inside and met up with some "stars" of the film.

Here Mike and Joie are talking with the couple from Hebard's Travels YouTube channel.

We didn't know this couple before the movie premier but we enjoyed hearing their story and the emotion he shared of the effects of serving in the military and how that led to their RV journey.

Oh my, we're not in California anymore!
Sorry if it's offensive!  Texans are different!
One day during some free time Al wanted to get his hair cut so we went to the only barber in town, Jim Ellis.

This is Jim cutting Al's hair.  He said it was the best haircut he ever got and it cost $16.  A bit pricey for Al's style but the guy used a straight razor which was a new experience for him.

After Al finished I asked Jim if he could trim my hair.  I got a nice hair trim for $16!
My turn in the chair

While we were at Jim's shop, we got to talking (of course) and Jim's shop is like a museum to barbers.  He had many unique things and he enjoyed showing us around.  He gave Al this bar of soap from Redkin that you can use to lather up and not wash it off and it turns to powder.  Al later looked it up and it's a $16 bar of soap!  He gave me a big bottle of shampoo to try.  So for $32 we both got haircuts, a bar of soap, bottle of shampoo, and great conversation.

We also learned that Jim was running for county commissioner.  I just googled it and it and he won!

We really enjoyed meeting Jim and talking with him.

We also enjoyed meeting Carol, a man that owns an antique store in town.  What a joyful man who loved having all these RV people invade his town.

One day of the premier event they had a hot air balloon that was inflated but tethered.  After the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, this wasn't so exciting.

Muddy tires!  (And the shell window is still not fixed)

This was the location at the fairgrounds for our gatherings.

And entertainment at night.

Kyle & Olivia
One morning of the event the local Lions club had their annual pancake breakfast.  It was another opportunity to meet some local people.

This is the unofficial mayor of Wellington.  Apparently he just wanders around town.
During the event there were panel discussions on various RV'ing and working from the road topics.  Many of the people in the movie are YouTubers or are active on social media or write blogs.  Here the panel is talking about traveling to Alaska which we hope to do one summer soon.

Another popular couple from the movie are Kyle and Olivia.  They have their own YouTube channel too and post some good videos.  He also is a singer so he performed at the event.

Here is the rig they travel in.  Way too small for me!

Finally it was time to watch the movie!

We enjoyed the movie and the opportunity to meet so many great people at NomadFest 2018!

Unfortunately we had to leave NomadFest early because we bought tickets prior to seeing the event agenda to see Alan Parsons in Grand Prairie, Texas.  We had about a four hour drive and had to set up the RV at a farm on the way.

We joined a group called "Boondockers Welcome" which is where people who have room to host RVers can offer their location to people like us looking for a free place to stay.  If someone stays on their land, then they get credits to stay at other locations without paying for the membership.  It's a great deal!  We decided to try it out and met a wonderful couple, Sam & Sarah in Azle, TX.  They have a 6 acre organic farm and some animals.  We arrived at their location and set up and then hit the road to the concert.  They knew our plans for the concert so we weren't being rude.

Since we were off to the concert so quickly, we spent more time talking to them the next morning.  They even brought us a box of items from the garden including eggs from their chickens!  RV'ing people are just so unbelievably nice!

We stayed with Sam & Sarah for two nights for free and next we're off to San Antonio for a Grand Design (maker of our RV) rally!
