Snow Canyon State Park in Utah - Side Trips

On our days off from work we did some side trips from Snow Canyon State Park.  We were provided a Utah State Parks Pass so we could visit some other state parks for free.  It was helpful to visit the other parks so I could speak knowledgeably when making suggestions to guests.  The closest was Gunlock State Park.

This girl was funny to watch as she used a barbecue to scratch her neck.

Since it was a very wet winter and spring, the reservoir was full and water was spilling over the dam and down over the rocks on its way down stream.  Lots of people were playing in the water but we didn't bring our water shoes.  Bummer!

On our way back to the park we got stuck in a donkey road crossing.

Another day we went to the Red Cliffs Recreation area near Leeds, Utah.  This location had some dinosaur tracks and Anasazi Indian ruins.

The Tuacahn amphitheater is in the canyon next to Snow Canyon so we bought tickets to see a Fleetwood Mac tribute band called Rumors.

And then two days later we attended Easter service at the amphitheater.  Calvary Chapel St George does their Easter service at this location every year.  I love an outdoor Easter service and what a spectacular location!

We also visited Quail Creek and Sand Hallow State Parks which are between Snow Canyon and Zion National Park near Hurricane, UT.  Both had water so there were lots of people on boats, kayaks, and paddle boards.  We liked Quail Creek more for paddle boarding since it was a smaller and so a more quiet lake.  Sand Hallow also has lots of sand trails for four wheeling.

One day we rented a car to drive to Boulder City in Nevada to visit our storage garage and get some items for an upcoming trip.  On the way back to Utah we stopped off at Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.

Near Sand Canyon State Park is the Anasazi Valley Trailhead in the town of Santa Clara which leads to more local petroglyphs.  Since I've been recommending this site to visitors since we've been here we decided we should take a look ourselves.  We were not disappointed!

Snow Canyon State Park is one of those canyons in the distance.
The petroglyphs were among these rocks high up above the Santa Clara river.  It was a treasure hunt to search for them.

If only we knew what these pictures mean!

Next we have a friend coming from southern California to visit us for a long weekend.  We're looking forward to showing him around.

  3. From dinosaur tracks and petroglyphs to stunning views … WOW … how much fun!

Too funny, my sister told me that she saw the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Rumors in Atlanta, GA.
Looks like your concert setting would have been much better than hers.

Thanks for letting me ride along.

    1. Rumors was a UK band. I guess they do concerts all over, including Atlanta! Thanks for riding along on our adventure.
